General Medical Examiner – Texas VBA Examinations

Overview

You’re a licensed physician who excels in clear, evidence-based clinical evaluation and documentation. In the General Medical Examiner – Texas VBA Examinations role, you’ll perform non-treatment disability evaluations for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) under the Optum Serve network. This work focuses on objective review of medical history and completion of structured disability benefit questionnaires to support federal benefit determinations.

Position Details

Location: Regional medical evaluation work across the Central Texas region
Facility Type: VA compensation & pension examination network via Optum Serve (clinic, outreach or telehealth-as-assigned)
Schedule: Per examination and regional request schedule
Start Date: Upon completion of credentialing and onboarding
Assignment Type: Contract examiner supporting Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) medical disability exams
Patient Population: Veterans seeking disability benefit evaluations
Documentation: Secure reporting and Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) through designated systems

Responsibilities

• Review referral requests, medical records, prior treatments, and claim history

• Conduct one-time compensation and pension exams for Veterans

• Explain exam process and address examinee questions clearly and respectfully

• Complete Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and associated clinical reports accurately and on time

• Provide objective clinical findings linked to disability evaluations

• Coordinate any required diagnostic testing or chart reviews as necessary for thorough exams

• Submit high-quality, compliant documentation through the secure VA reporting portal

Qualifications

Required:

• Texas state medical license required

• MD or DO degree with current, unrestricted licensure in good standing

• Demonstrated ability to produce objective, well-organized clinical evaluations and written documentation
  Preferred:

• Prior experience with VA compensation & pension exams or similar disability evaluations
