Job Summary
The Occupational Health EMT, under the direction of the Occupational Health Physician helps meet the need(s) of the nursing service in the occupational health program. The Occupational Health EMT must have sufficient knowledge to be able to evaluate illness and accidents in terms of their possible consequences, to identify problems related to health and safety of the employee, and to work closely with the physician, management and other members of the occupational health team in formulating indicated action.Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Hearing Conservation Program
- Obtain sound level readings every two years and after completion of construction or changes in the work environment.
- Assist in identifying areas where hearing protection is required to be worn.
- Assist in providing the appropriate selection of hearing protection devices including hearing protection fit testing.
- Continuing education of employees on hearing conservation.
- Obtain annual audiograms and provide follow up care and training.
- Assist in Hear Trac Data Base management.
- Respiratory Protection Program
- Completion of spirometry and/or pulmonary function screenings.
- Coordinate completion of chest x-ray screenings as needed for the respirable crystalline silica medical surveillance program.
- Review results of medical screenings with consulting physician.
- Fit testing of respirators.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) program
- Assist the Safety Department in procuring the appropriate PPE within the stock room to protect employees from known hazards.
- Assist safety in completing PPE evaluations to identify the hazards in the work place, and maintain written documentation of the hazards and recommended PPE.
- Workers Compensation
- Communicate with Waupaca Foundry’s workers compensation carrie on a routine basis.
- Implement activities to decrease worker’s compensation costs by identifying problem areas.
- Provide proper job placement of employees with an illness/injury to prevent additional injury.
- Maintain modified duty, return to work program.
- Blood Borne Pathogens (BBP) Program
- Provide training and maintain records regarding annual training provided to Emergency Medical Responders.
- Emergency Medical Responders (to include First Aid trained)
- Supervise and maintain training and certification records for all Emergency Medical Responders.
- Provide or arrange continuing education for the emergency response group.
- Review and monitor the Automated Defibrillator Program and provide this information to the Medical Director for review.
- Pre-employment evaluation
- Assist the Occupational Health Physician with pre-employment physical clearance.
- Assist with post offer testing utilizing a third party evaluator.
- Ergonomics Program
- Evaluate various work tasks for risk of injury due to factors such as strain, impact and repetitive stresses.
- Participate in Ergonomics Team activities
- Drug and Alcohol Program
- Collect/analyze urine drug screens and breath alcohol screenings in accordance with the Waupaca Foundry drug testing policy.
- Monitor and maintain the effectiveness of “Drug and Alcohol Abuse Testing and Rehabilitation”.
- Assist Human Resources with the employee Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation program.
- First Aid Treatment
- Provide first aid care to employees under the scope of the Medical Directives.
- Order and maintain necessary supplies for first aid care.
- Incident Investigation
- Initiate written incident investigation reports after an employee injury report and assist Safety Department in gathering incident data.
- OSHA Recordkeeping
- Maintain OSHA records and OSHA logs using the OHM database.
- Complete and post the OSHA 300A Summary of Injury and Illness annually.
- Maintain employee medical files and records.
- On an annual basis, prepare and post the “Employee Right to Access and Review Medical and Industrial Hygiene Records”.
- Stretch It Out Program and Early Intervention
- Monitor the SIO program to comply with the onsite providers pre work stretch recommendations.
- Work with the local physical therapists who will assist with the program.
- Assist onsite provider with Job Function Descriptions.
- Respirable Crystalline Silica Standard Medical Surveillance
- Make available medical surveillance as indicated by OSHA 1910.1053
- Current state license as a registered nurse or license practical nurse.
- Bachelor’s degree and certification in occupational health nursing or case management optional.
- Maintain current training in NIOSH Approved Course for spirometry testing.
- Maintain Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservations Certification.
- Training & proficiency in drug & alcohol specimen collections.
- Maintain current CPR & AED training established by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Intermediate computer skills are preferred.
- Must be detail oriented, have ability to multitask and possess great interpersonal skills.
